OUR PASTOR & LEADERS
If you see someone asking everyone how they are doing when they come into church, possibly giggling during one of Pastor Connie's sermons, enjoying all sorts of great conversations during fellowship activities, and almost always having a big smile on her face, that's probably Christy - our Youth Leader. Christy has more than 23 years experience as an educator in middle and high school, and she enjoys working with teenagers. She says they keep her on her toes and she also enjoys how relatable and honest they are when a person really takes the time to get to know them. Christy grew up in Delaware where she attended the University of Delaware and she is a proud blue hen. She moved to VA in 1993 to pursue her teaching career. She also has an overwhelming love of cats and currently has 3. She also enjoys reality TV when she has spare time to watch and she has been part of River of Grace since May of 2013. Christy enjoys working with the youth and knows that she grows right along side them on their spiritual journeys.
Vickie is a life-long Lutheran who was delighted to find a church home at River of Grace Lutheran Church. She is inspired by the invitation to join with others to Worship, Grow and Serve and received such a warm welcome that she wanted to “pay it forward” by being part of welcoming others to River of Grace. Vickie is a clinical social worker who has worked at Prince William Community Services for over thirty years providing services to individuals who are struggling with mental health and substance use issues. In addition, she has a passion for providing behavioral health support designed to promote resilience, health and wellness for public safety personnel throughout their careers. On a daily basis, Vickie marvels at the many ways in which God’s grace reveals itself in both ordinary and extraordinary ways. She greatly enjoys welcoming our newcomers and helping them feel comfortable and involved at River of Grace!
Carol serves as our Nursery Coordinator at River of Grace by caring for our littlest brothers and sisters in faith in a loving and Christ-centered environment where children are welcomed and nurtured, and also taught some of the very first basics about living as people who are loved by God.
Born and raised in Iowa, Carol obtained a B.S> degree in Child Development from Iowa State University of Science and Technology. She taught preschoolers in a Head Start program, as well as a child care center's infant program, and then served as a Christian Education Director at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Waukesha, WI. Before she retired she was the Director of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's child care center in Washington, D.C.
Carol believes that scripture, her innate love for children (especially infants, toddlers, and preschoolers), and the gifts that God has given her are what - after much prayerful consideration - influenced her decision to accept the position of Nursery Coordinator. It's important to her to give to today's children the spiritual beginning she was given, and we are fortunate to have her serve on our Team at River of Grace. You and your children will think so, too!
