LAST WEEK AT RIVER OF GRACE

Help: We Aren't in it Alone

Last Sunday, we continue our lessons centered around the theme Following Jesus For Life

Everything that we use needs to be refueled or recharged after use: our cars, our cell phones, even our bodies, and our spirits are no exception. Our spirits certainly can feel weary from all the burdens we face, from the battles we wage. And the promise we are given is that we do not fight these battles alone. The God who created us, is also the God who sustains us. So we are encouraged to wait upon the Lord. But do not confuse waiting with stopping: waiting is hoping. And hoping means to wait with expectation. The expectation that God will indeed refuel and recharge our spirits and our bodies. That together, with God, we emerge stronger than ever.

Our readings were:

Isaiah 40:29-41 and Psalm 124

WHO WE ARE...

At River of Grace, you're going to find normal people. Well, as normal as people can be, anyway. We are married and single, black and white, Hispanic and Asian. We are young and old. We are liberal and conservative. Some of us have been "doing faith" for a long time and some of us are newbies. And yet we are all united under the banner of Christ, which means that we believe that God loves us no matter what we do and because of that love we try to live good lives, we believe that everyone has gifts to share to make the world a better place, we believe that we are forgiven when we mess up, and we believe that we'll truly 'find' ourselves when we give ourselves away in service to others. It's something of a paradox, and yet together we laugh and cry, we remember and dream, we give thanks and we hope for a better day when justice will reign on the earth and when every single person can trust fully and deeply that they are part of God's plan.
